New EPA Lead-Paint Certification Law Applies to Interior Renovations
Beginning on April 22, 2010, federal law will require contractors that disturb
lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 to be
certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. This means any
renovation activity - including wood flooring installations, repairs, and refinishing - that
disturbs six square feet on the inside of a house, school, or child-care facility will be subject to the regulations in the EPA program.
Lead in dust is the most common way people are exposed to lead. Projects, such as sanding, that disturb lead-based paint can create dust and endanger your health. Part of new EPA regulations regarding lead safety when renovating hardwood floors requires power tools to have high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter-equipped vacuum attachments to contain the dust.
Independent of any EPA requirements, Dustless Hardwood Floors has already been using a dustless system with HEPA filtration and a dust containment system since 2006.
Effective dust containment is essential for protecting your health. Our equipment provides:
*Increased customer satisfaction - virtually eliminating the nightmare of dust throughout the home
*Higher quality results - virtually eliminating airborne dust that would settle back into the finish
*Healthier working and living conditions - wood dust is a known carcinogen
The traditional sanding process is a threat to your health.
When sanding without a dust containment system, the wood dust particle count is over 20 times the OSHA limit.
We have always been concerned for the health of our customers and for the environment. Check back in March when we make it official with the completion of our certification.
